About

Rashida Jones was born in Los Angeles, California, on February 25, 1976, to producer Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton. She was raised in Bel Air, Los Angeles, and attended Harvard University, graduating in 1997. Her professional acting debut was in the 1997 miniseries “The Last Don.” This early work set the foundation for a career that would span various creative roles within the entertainment industry. She gained recognition for her role as Louisa Fenn in the Fox drama series “Boston Public” from 2000 to 2002, earning an NAACP Image Award nomination.

Jones expanded her career beyond acting, contributing to the writing of her father’s biography, “Q: The Autobiography of Quincy Jones” (2001), and co-creating the comic book series “Frenemy of the State.” A significant turning point in her acting career was joining the cast of “The Office” in 2006 as Karen Filippelli, a role she reprised across several seasons. This was followed by her long-running role as Ann Perkins in the NBC comedy series “Parks and Recreation” from 2009 to 2015, which further solidified her presence in comedic television. Concurrently, she appeared in films such as “I Love You, Man” (2009) and “The Social Network” (2010), demonstrating her versatility.

Her career progression continued with successful ventures in writing and producing. Jones co-wrote and starred in the film “Celeste and Jesse Forever” (2012) and co-wrote the teleplay for a “Black Mirror” episode, “Nosedive” (2016). In 2018, she co-directed and co-wrote the documentary “Quincy,” about her father, which earned her a Grammy Award for Best Music Film in 2019. Her work extends to animation, including roles in “Spies in Disguise” (2019) and “Klaus” (2019), and a “story by” credit for “Toy Story 4” (2019). Most recently, Jones starred in the TV series “Sunny” (2024) and received a Primetime Emmy nomination for her role in “Black Mirror” (2025). Her contributions as a producer include the documentary “Hot Girls Wanted” (2015) and its spin-off series “Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On” (2017), alongside executive producing the film “On the Rocks” (2020) and the television series “The Other Black Girl” (2023).
