About

Gervonta Bryant Davis, known as “Tank,” was born on November 7, 1994, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised in the Sandtown-Winchester community, a challenging area of the city. Davis began training at the Upton Boxing Center at the age of five. His early life involved his parents struggling with drug addiction and frequent periods in and out of jail. He attended Digital Harbor High School but later earned his secondary degree through a GED program, prioritizing his boxing career from a young age. His amateur career was highly successful, culminating in a record of 206 wins and 15 losses, including a 2012 National Golden Gloves Championship, three National Silver Gloves Championships from 2006 to 2008, two National Junior Olympics gold medals, two National Police Athletic League Championships, and two Ringside World Championships.

Davis made his professional debut at 18 on February 22, 2013, securing a first-round knockout victory against Desi Williams. His early professional career saw him accumulate eight consecutive stoppage victories before going the distance for the first time in October 2014 against Germán Meraz, winning by unanimous decision. Over the next few years, Davis continued to build his impressive record, consistently winning by knockout against opponents like Israel Suarez in 2015 and Cristobal Cruz in 2015. On January 14, 2017, he captured his first major world title, the IBF super featherweight title, by defeating undefeated José Pedraza via seventh-round knockout. He then defended this title against Liam Walsh in May 2017 with a third-round knockout, though he later lost the title on the scales for a subsequent fight.

Davis continued his ascent, winning the WBA (Super) super featherweight title in April 2018 against Jesús Cuellar, also by knockout. He added the WBA (Regular) lightweight title in December 2019 by defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa in the twelfth round. His career saw him move across multiple weight classes, winning the WBA (Super) super featherweight title for a second time in October 2020 by knocking out Léo Santa Cruz, a victory that earned him The Ring Magazine Knockout of The Year award. In June 2021, he moved up to super lightweight, capturing the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title from Mario Barrios. Notable defenses of his lightweight titles include unanimous decision wins over Isaac Cruz and TKO victories against Rolando Romero and Héctor García. His highly anticipated catchweight bout against Ryan Garcia in April 2023 ended with a seventh-round knockout victory for Davis. He was elevated to primary WBA lightweight champion in November 2023 and defended this title against Frank Martin in June 2024 with an eighth-round knockout. His professional record stands at 30 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw, with 28 wins by knockout.
