Born in Ealing, London, in 1980, Rebecca Lowe developed an early interest in sports, particularly football. She pursued higher education at the University of East Anglia, graduating with a 2:1 BA Honours Degree in Drama in 2002. Her career in broadcasting began swiftly after graduation when she won BBC Television’s Talent Search for a football reporter in November 2002. This marked the start of her significant contributions to sports journalism in the UK, reporting from key matches and contributing to prominent BBC sports programs.
Lowe’s career advanced through roles at BBC, Setanta Sports UK, and ESPN UK. During her tenure at the BBC, she reported for “Final Score” on top Premier League matches, contributed to “Football Focus,” and presented “Football in the Community” for “Match of the Day.” She also worked as a main sports presenter for BBC News 24 and BBC Radio 5 Live, and served as England team reporter for the 2005 Women’s European Championship. In 2007, she transitioned to Setanta Sports, co-hosting coverage of the Football Conference and co-presenting “Football Matters.” Following Setanta’s closure, she joined ESPN UK in 2009, making history as the first woman in the UK to host an FA Cup Final in 2012. Her work extended to US television, co-hosting ESPN’s UEFA Euro 2012 coverage and sporadically presenting ESPN USA’s Premier League telecasts.
In 2013, Lowe made a pivotal move to NBC Sports, becoming the lead studio host for its Premier League coverage in the United States, a role she continues to excel in. She has since been recognized as Newcomer of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 2013 and has extended her contract with NBC through the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Beyond football, she serves as a lead daytime host for NBC’s Summer and Winter Olympic coverage, spanning Sochi 2014, Rio 2016, Pyeong Chang 2018, Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022, and Paris 2024. She also co-hosts the Kentucky Derby coverage and the popular podcast “It’s Called Soccer,” influencing the growth of football awareness in the US.
