Anne Marie “Ree” Drummond, born January 6, 1969, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, established herself as a notable figure in the culinary and lifestyle spheres. After graduating from the University of Southern California in 1991, where she initially studied journalism before switching to gerontology, her life path shifted when she met and married Ladd Drummond. This led her to embrace life on a working cattle ranch in rural Oklahoma, a significant departure from her earlier aspirations of attending law school in Chicago. In 2006, Drummond launched her blog, The Pioneer Woman, which initially documented her experiences with ranch life and homeschooling. The blog gained substantial traction after she began posting recipes and cooking tutorials, such as “How to Cook a Steak,” around a year after its inception. Its popularity rapidly grew, leading to it winning the Weblog of the Year in the 2010 Bloggies, and by 2011, it was reportedly receiving 23.3 million page views monthly.
Capitalizing on the blog’s success, Drummond expanded her brand significantly. In 2009, she released her first cookbook, “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl,” which became a New York Times bestseller. Her literary career further diversified with the publication of her autobiography, “Black Heels to Tractor Wheels,” in 2011, and a series of children’s books featuring her Basset Hound, Charlie. In 2011, Drummond made her television debut on an episode of “Throwdown! with Bobby Flay,” which paved the way for her own Food Network show, also titled “The Pioneer Woman,” premiering in August 2011. This show brought her home cooking and ranch life to a national audience.
Beyond media, Drummond ventured into retail and hospitality. In 2015, she launched a “homey lifestyle” product line, encompassing cookware, cutlery, appliances, clothing, and outdoor living products. In late 2016, she and her husband opened The Mercantile, a restaurant and retail store in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, followed by The Boarding House, a bed and breakfast, and P-Town Pizza in 2018. In 2020, they opened “Charlie’s Sweet Shop,” named after their late Basset Hound. These ventures demonstrate her ability to transform her personal brand into a multifaceted enterprise, continuing to share her distinct approach to food, home, and family life.
