Born Roy Wilson on January 20, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York, Reno Wilson began his acting career in the late 1980s. One of his early and notable roles was Howard, Theo Huxtable’s college friend, in the popular NBC sitcom “The Cosby Show,” appearing throughout its fifth and sixth seasons. This recurring role helped establish his presence in television, laying the groundwork for a prolific career that would span decades and include a variety of roles in both comedic and dramatic productions.
Wilson’s career progressed with significant roles in both television and film. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Officer Carl McMillan in the CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly” from 2010 to 2016, where he starred alongside Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell for 127 episodes. Following this, he took on the role of Stan Hill in the critically acclaimed NBC series “Good Girls,” appearing in 50 episodes from 2018 to 2021. In film, Wilson is known for his roles as Orlando in the action films “Crank” (2006) and “Crank: High Voltage” (2009). He has also lent his voice to several characters in the successful “Transformers” film series, including Frenzy, Mudflap, and Brains, across multiple installments including “Transformers” (2007), “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009), “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” (2011), and “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (2014).
Beyond live-action and voice roles, Wilson has also contributed his talents to video games, notably voicing Sazh Katzroy in the “Final Fantasy XIII” series, which includes “Final Fantasy XIII” (2009), “Final Fantasy XIII-2” (2011), and “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII” (2014).
