Demi Bennett, known professionally as Rhea Ripley, was born on October 11, 1996, in Adelaide, South Australia. Her athletic background includes swimming, karate, rugby, netball, and soccer, which contributed to her eventual career in professional wrestling. She initiated her wrestling journey at Riot City Wrestling in Australia on June 22, 2013, at sixteen. During her time in Riot City Wrestling, she achieved the RCW Women’s Championship twice before signing with WWE in 2017. Her early career also included matches in New Horizon Pro Wrestling and Melbourne City Wrestling, as well as a tour of Japan wrestling for various promotions like Pro Wrestling Zero1, Reina Joshi Puroresu, and Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling.
Upon joining WWE in 2017, Ripley participated in the inaugural Mae Young Classic, advancing to the second round. She returned for the 2018 Mae Young Classic, reaching the semi-finals, showcasing an increasingly aggressive persona. This led to her becoming a key part of the NXT UK brand, where she made history as the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion in August 2018, becoming the first female Australian champion in WWE. Her career progressed through significant reigns as NXT Women’s Champion, WWE Raw Women’s Champion, and Women’s World Champion. Notably, she became the seventh WWE Women’s Triple Crown Champion and fifth WWE Women’s Grand Slam Champion, and the youngest grand slam champion in WWE history at 26. In 2023, she won the Women’s Royal Rumble match as the first entrant, a rare achievement. Her impactful work continues as she navigates feuds and maintains a strong presence within The Judgment Day faction, solidifying her status as a top-tier talent in WWE.
Beyond her in-ring achievements, Ripley has extended her presence to other media, including appearances as a playable character in multiple WWE 2K video games, starting with WWE 2K20. She was also a cover star for the deluxe edition of WWE 2K24 alongside Bianca Belair and featured as an unlockable operator in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Her significant connection with fans and her unique persona have contributed to her widespread popularity, making her a prominent figure in entertainment.
