Tyree Ricardo Davis, born on September 23, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nevada, developed his basketball skills at North High School in Davenport, Iowa. After playing one collegiate season at the University of Iowa, he was selected as the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 1998 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. During his initial two seasons with the Hornets, Davis quickly gained recognition for his high-energy style, including exciting poster dunks, and participated in the 2000 Slam Dunk competition. His career progression saw him move to the Miami Heat, followed by a significant period with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2001 to 2003, where he averaged 20.6 points per game during the 2002–03 season. His time in Cleveland included notable performance milestones, though it also featured some controversial incidents.
Davis was traded to the Boston Celtics in December 2003, where he played until 2006, evolving into a more consistent player and becoming a fan favorite. He subsequently played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and had a second stint with the Miami Heat before joining the Los Angeles Clippers until 2010. Following his NBA career, Davis expanded his professional experience internationally, playing for Türk Telekom in Turkey, the Jiangsu Dragons in China, and Chorale Roanne Basket in France. He also played in the NBA Development League with the Maine Red Claws and Erie BayHawks, and for Piratas de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico. Throughout his career, he accumulated 9,912 points, 2,550 rebounds, and 2,426 assists.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Davis has demonstrated a commitment to community work. He founded the Ricky Davis Legacy Foundation and the charity Feed Your City Challenge.
