About

Baron Walter Louis Davis was born on April 13, 1979, in Los Angeles, California. Raised in South Central Los Angeles by his grandmother, Lela Nicholson, Davis began playing basketball at a young age. He attended Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, where he quickly became a standout player. In 1997, he was named Gatorade National Player of the Year, California Mr. Basketball, and a Parade All-American, and played in the McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball Game. After high school, Davis committed to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During his college career at UCLA from 1997 to 1999, he averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 assists. He was recognized as the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 1998 and earned Third-team All-American honors in 1999. Despite a significant knee injury (torn ACL) during his freshman year, he made a full recovery and continued to excel.

Davis was selected as the third overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets, embarking on a 14-year professional career. He played for several teams, including the Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New York Knicks. Throughout his NBA tenure, Davis earned two NBA All-Star selections (2002, 2004) and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2004. He twice led the league in steals (2004, 2007), showcasing his defensive prowess. He holds the NBA career playoff record for steals per game with an average of 2.28 over 50 games. His career highlights include leading the Golden State Warriors to an upset victory over the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the 2007 NBA Playoffs, where he averaged 25 points per game in the series.

Beyond his basketball career, Davis has delved into various entrepreneurial and media ventures. He has appeared in films and television shows, becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He co-founded Verso Entertainment, a production company, and established the Black Santa Company in 2016 to promote diverse stories and figures. Davis has also been active in the gaming industry, co-founding 5 Balloons Interactive, and serves on advisory boards for several companies. His post-NBA career demonstrates a focus on creativity, business development, and media engagement.
