Rimi Sen

Rimi Sen, born Subhamitra Sen on September 21, 1981, in Kolkata, West Bengal, demonstrated an early ambition for acting. She completed her schooling at Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School in 1998 and earned a Commerce degree from the University of Calcutta. Her artistic journey extended to training in Odissi dance under Guru Aloka Kanungo. Following her education, she moved to Mumbai, pursuing her acting dream with support from her grandfather. Her initial breakthrough came through advertising, notably a Coca-Cola commercial featuring Aamir Khan, which quickly brought her to public attention.

Sen’s acting debut was in the Telugu film “Nee Thodu Kavali” in 2002. She made her Hindi film debut in 2003 with Vijay Galani’s comedy “Hungama,” co-starring Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Paresh Rawal, which earned her a Filmfare Best Female Debut nomination. This success led to roles in several commercially successful films, including “Baghban” (2003), “Dhoom” (2004), “Garam Masala” (2005), “Kyon Ki” (2005), “Phir Hera Pheri” (2006), and “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited” (2006). She also appeared in a cameo role in “Dhoom 2” (2006) and featured in “Johnny Gaddaar” (2007) alongside Neil Nitin Mukesh.

After a period where some films like “De Taali” (2008) and “Sankat City” (2009) did not perform as well, Sen diversified her career. In 2015, she broadened her public presence by participating in the reality television show “Bigg Boss 9.” Transitioning behind the camera, she produced the film “Budhia Singh: Born to Run” (2016), under her birth name Subhamitra Sen, which received a National Film Award for Best Children’s Film. Her career reflects a progression from acting to producing, marking her continued involvement in the Indian entertainment industry.
