Rino Sashihara

Rino Sashihara was born on November 21, 1992, in Oita, Japan. Her career began in October 2007 when she successfully auditioned for the 5th generation of AKB48, a prominent Japanese idol group. By August 2008, she was promoted to a regular member of Team B, quickly establishing her presence in the music scene. Her debut title track single, “Ōgoe Diamond,” was released in October 2008. Sashihara’s popularity grew through her participation in the annual General Elections, where she consistently ranked high, moving from the “Under Girls” in 2009 to the main “Senbatsu” in 2010. In 2011, she starred in her own television program, “Although You Are Sashiko,” further showcasing her personality. She made her solo debut with the single “Soredemo Suki Da yo” in May 2012 under Avex Trax, coinciding with her lead role in the NTV drama “Muse no Kagami.”

A significant turning point in Sashihara’s career occurred in June 2012 when she was transferred to HKT48. Despite this change, she continued to achieve success, with her second solo single, “Ikujinashi Masquerade,” reaching number one on the Oricon Weekly chart in October 2012. Her leadership abilities were recognized in 2013 when she was appointed co-manager and theater manager for HKT48. That same year, she produced SKE48 member Kaori Matsumura’s solo single, “Matsumurabu.” Sashihara achieved unprecedented success in the AKB48 General Elections, securing the top position three consecutive times from 2015 to 2017. Her autobiography, “Gyakuten-ryoku ~ Pinchi o Mate ~,” published in August 2014, became a bestseller.

Expanding her creative roles, Sashihara began producing idol groups. In 2017, she launched =LOVE (Equal Love) and also became a member and theater manager for the newly formed STU48, though she later resigned from STU48 to concentrate on HKT48. Her influence as a producer continued with the introduction of ≠ME (Not Equal Me) in 2019 and ≒JOY (Nearly Equal Joy). Sashihara graduated from HKT48 in April 2019 after a successful career that spanned over a decade, during which she transitioned from a performer to a significant figure in idol group management and production. Her career reflects a progression from performing artist to a creative and administrative force within the Japanese entertainment industry.
