About

Rob Cristofaro began his career as a graffiti artist in New York City, which honed his creative skills and provided the foundation for his future endeavors. In 1999, he co-founded Alife alongside Tony Arcabascio, Tammy Brainard, and Arnaud Delecolle. Initially conceived as an art collective and workshop, Alife soon expanded into the streetwear scene, establishing itself as a prominent force in New York’s cultural landscape. A significant milestone in the brand’s history was the opening of the Alife Rivington Club, one of New York’s first high-profile sneaker boutiques. This establishment quickly gained recognition for its daring design ethos and curated selection of footwear.

The Alife Rivington Club became a pivotal location for the burgeoning sneaker culture, known for its around-the-block lines during product drops. Under Cristofaro’s creative direction, Alife successfully forged numerous collaborations with major brands such as Nike, Puma, Reebok, and Adidas. Many of these partnerships were pioneering, with Alife being among the first to engage in co-branding efforts with these companies. The brand also hosted concerts and events at its Rivington space, attracting diverse talent including John Mayer and Drake, further solidifying its role as a cultural hub. Cristofaro’s approach to collaborations was to select partners that resonated personally with the brand’s founders, resulting in authentic and impactful projects.

Throughout his career, Cristofaro has continued to push creative boundaries. He once described the Alife Croc collaboration as a deliberate challenge to conventional sneaker culture, showcasing the brand’s willingness to embrace taboo trends ahead of mainstream acceptance. Beyond footwear and apparel, Cristofaro and Alife have expanded into other creative ventures, including a project with Puma to create the ‘Who’s Who’ book through his new venture, Newco Studios. He has also expressed interest in film projects and museum exhibitions, such as the Henry Chalfant exhibition at The Museum of the Bronx, demonstrating a commitment to exploring new artistic and cultural avenues.
