Robbie Savage

Robbie Savage has transitioned from a renowned professional footballer and Welsh international to a prominent media personality, pundit, and football manager, offering his expertise across broadcasting and leadership roles. After securing an FA Youth Cup winner’s medal with Manchester United in 1992, Robbie Savage went on to establish a robust professional football career, making over 600 professional appearances. His playing career began with Crewe Alexandra, where he debuted in 1994 and was instrumental in their promotion to Division One in 1997. Savage’s tenacious midfield play earned him a £400,000 move to Leicester City in July 1997, culminating in a League Cup victory during the 1999-2000 season.

His candid and insightful analysis earned him the Sony DAB Rising Star Award for BBC Radio 5 Live in May 2011. Expanding his public profile beyond football, Savage participated in the 2011 series of Strictly Come Dancing, where he reached an impressive sixth place. In October 2014, his contributions were further acknowledged with an Honorary Fellowship at Wrexham’s Glynd?r University. More recently, Savage has turned his expertise to football management, beginning with a brief playing comeback for Stockport Town in November 2019.

He was instrumental in establishing Macclesfield F.C. in October 2020, serving on the board before becoming Director of Football. In June 2024, Savage was appointed head coach, leading Macclesfield to promotion to the National League North by March 2025.
