Darrius Heyward Bey

Darrius Heyward-Bey was born on February 26, 1987, in Silver Spring, Maryland. He attended McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, where he excelled in both football and track and field, earning first-team all-state honors in football during his senior year and setting school records in track. He later committed to the University of Maryland, College Park, where he played college football for the Maryland Terrapins from 2005 to 2008. After redshirting in 2005, he quickly became a key offensive player, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards in 2006 and 2007. Heyward-Bey finished his college career with 138 receptions, 2,089 receiving yards, and 13 touchdown catches, placing him second in school history for career receiving yards. He declared for the NFL Draft in 2009 after his junior season.

Heyward-Bey was drafted by the Oakland Raiders as the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. During his four seasons with the Raiders (2009-2012), he played in 56 games, recorded 140 receptions for 2,071 yards and 11 touchdowns, with his most productive season in 2011, where he achieved 64 receptions for 975 yards and 4 touchdowns. In 2013, he signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, playing 16 games and recording 29 receptions for 309 yards and one touchdown. His career saw a shift when he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014, initially signing a one-year deal and then a three-year contract in 2016. With the Steelers (2014-2018), he became a valuable special teams player and rotational wide receiver. Across his tenure with Pittsburgh, he played 72 games, recorded 33 receptions for 517 yards and 4 touchdowns, and also contributed with 2 rushing touchdowns. He retired from the NFL after the 2018 season, having consistently played a role in NFL offenses for a decade.

Throughout his professional career, Heyward-Bey played a total of 144 regular-season games, accumulating 202 receptions for 2,897 receiving yards and 16 receiving touchdowns. He also had 15 rushing attempts for 194 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
