Dominican Republic Robel Garcia is a professional baseball infielder known for his journey through various leagues in the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Major League Baseball, sharing insights from a diverse international career.
García played for Fortitudo Bologna, also known as UnipolSai Bologna for sponsorship reasons, from 2017 to 2018, contributing to their 2018 Italian Baseball Championship win. He also returned to UnipolSai Bologna in 2023.
García represented Team Italy in an Instructional League game in October 2018, which led to his signing with the Chicago Cubs. He was also an active player for Italy in February and March 2023.
García signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in October 2018 after being released by Cleveland in 2014 and playing in Italy. He made his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2019 and had a second stint with their minor league affiliate in 2022.

Robel E. García was born on March 28, 1993, in Las Matas de Farfan, Dominican Republic. His professional baseball career began when he signed with the Cleveland Indians as a non-drafted free agent on February 2, 2010. During his initial tenure with the Indians organization, he played in their minor league system, reaching Class A before being released in March 2014. Following his release, García moved to Verona, Italy, due to his dual Dominican Republic and Italian citizenship, where he continued his baseball career in independent leagues. He played with Redskins Imola in 2016 and then spent two seasons with Fortitudo Bologna (also known as UnipolSai Bologna), helping them secure the 2018 Italian Baseball Championship.
In October 2018, while playing for Team Italy in an Instructional League game in Arizona, García was scouted by the Chicago Cubs and subsequently signed a minor league contract with them. He quickly progressed through the Cubs’ minor league system, starting the 2019 season with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies before being promoted to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. His breakthrough came on July 3, 2019, when he made his Major League Baseball debut with the Chicago Cubs. In his first MLB start on July 4, he recorded his first career hit, a triple, and his first home run, showcasing his potential. He finished the 2019 season with 27 minor league home runs and batted .208 with five home runs in 31 games for the Cubs.
García’s career continued with several team changes, including waiver claims by the Cincinnati Reds (2020), New York Mets (2020), Los Angeles Angels (2021), and Houston Astros (2021). He played 47 games for the Astros in 2021 before being designated for assignment. In 2022, he returned to the Cubs organization on a minor league contract, playing 41 games for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, where he hit .295 with 12 home runs. He later signed with the LG Twins of the KBO League and played for the Leones de Yucatán in the Mexican League in 2023, before rejoining UnipolSai Bologna in the Italian Baseball League.
