About

Pat Casey, born in McMinnville, Oregon, in 1959, established a notable career first as a multi-sport athlete and later as a highly successful collegiate baseball coach. He excelled in football, basketball, and baseball at Newberg High, continuing his athletic pursuits at the University of Portland where he played both baseball and basketball. During his time at the University of Portland from 1978 to 1980, Casey was recognized as a first-team All-NorPac Conference outfielder in his final two seasons and a second-team All-Region selection in 1980. His baseball talent led to him being drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 10th round of the 1980 Major League Baseball draft. Casey played professionally for seven seasons, reaching the Class AAA level with the Calgary Cannons in 1985-86 and the Portland Beavers in 1987.

Following his professional playing career, Casey transitioned into coaching, taking the helm of the George Fox University baseball program in his hometown of Newberg, Oregon. Over seven seasons, his teams achieved a record of 171-114-1, including a dominant 155-54-1 against NAIA competition, securing three District 2 titles, five Metro Valley Conference titles, and two Cascade Conference titles. He was recognized multiple times as Coach of the Year within these conferences and districts. This early success laid the groundwork for his move to Oregon State University in 1995, where he took over as head coach and significantly elevated the program’s national standing.

At Oregon State, Casey completed 24 seasons, leading the Beavers to three national championships in 2006, 2007, and 2018. His teams consistently performed at a high level, achieving 40 or more wins in nine seasons and 50 or more wins in four seasons. Under his leadership, Goss Stadium at Coleman Field became one of the nation’s toughest venues for opponents, a transformation he actively spearheaded through multiple expansion projects. Casey’s overall collegiate head coaching record stands at 1,071-572-7, with a .651 winning percentage. He retired from Oregon State after the 2018 season, leaving behind a legacy of sustained excellence and significant program development.
