Robert Craig Smith was born on August 11, 1975, in St. Joseph, Michigan, and raised in Tustin, California. Recognizing his creative talents early on, he was voted “Class Clown” in 8th grade and pursued musical theater training. He attended Chapman University, where he earned a B.A. in Screenwriting in 2003. During his time at university, he actively participated in public speaking, addressing both his 8th and 12th-grade graduations, and was elected freshman class president in high school. He also hosted a local live TV talk show, showcasing an early aptitude for performance and communication. Before transitioning to voice acting, Smith honed his performance skills as a stand-up comedian for five years.
In 2005, Smith fully dedicated himself to voice acting, marking a significant turning point in his career. His versatile vocal range quickly established him as a prominent figure in the industry. A notable milestone came in 2007 when he began his long-standing role as the narrator for TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress,” a position he has held for over 1,000 episodes.
