Romelu Lukaku became the Belgian Pro League top goalscorer in the 200910 season (15 goals), helping Anderlecht secure its 30th Belgian title. Prior to his professional debut in 2009, Lukaku scored 121 goals in 68 matches for Lierse (2004-2006) and 131 goals in 93 matches for Anderlechts youth setup (2006). In his breakthrough 200910 season, he also contributed four goals to Anderlechts UEFA Europa League last 16 run, followed by 20 goals across all competitions the subsequent season. In 2011, Lukaku made a significant £10 million transfer to Chelsea.
He gained experience during loan spells, scoring 17 league goals at West Bromwich Albion (201213), outscoring all his Chelsea teammates. He continued impressive form at Everton (201314), netting 15 goals in 31 league matches and contributing to Everton’s club-record 72 Premier League points. He permanently transferred to Everton in 2014 for £28 million. While there, he scored his first UEFA Europa League hat-trick in 2015 and became the fifth player under 23 to reach fifty Premier League goals that same year.
He was recognized as the IFFHS World’s Best International Goal Scorer in 2023.
