Romelu Lukaku Bolingoli was born on May 13, 1993, in Antwerpen, Belgium. His football journey began at a young age, joining local club Rupel Boom at five. He quickly caught the attention of scouts, leading him to Lierse from 2004 to 2006, where he impressively scored 121 goals in 68 matches. His early talent propelled him to Anderlecht’s youth academy, where he continued to excel, netting 131 goals in 93 matches.
Lukaku signed his first professional contract with Anderlecht in 2009, making his senior debut at the age of 16. He rapidly became a key player, finishing as the top goalscorer in the Belgian Pro League in the 2009–10 season with 15 goals, contributing to Anderlecht’s 30th Belgian title. His early career saw him move to Chelsea in 2011, followed by successful loan spells at West Bromwich Albion (2012–13) and Everton (2013–14), where he demonstrated consistent scoring prowess in the Premier League. His performances led to a permanent transfer to Everton in 2014, where he continued to cement his reputation as a formidable striker.
His career advanced with significant transfers to Manchester United in 2017, Inter Milan in 2019, and a return to Chelsea in 2021, each involving substantial transfer fees and marking him as a high-value player in European football. During his time at Inter Milan, he played a pivotal role in securing a Serie A title in the 2020–21 season, earning the Serie A Most Valuable Player award. He later joined Napoli in 2024, where he contributed to another Serie A title win. Internationally, Lukaku is Belgium’s all-time top goalscorer and has represented his country in multiple FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships, notably winning the Bronze Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
