About

Jeffrey Lee Johnson Jr., known professionally as Roscoe Dash, was born on April 2, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia. His music career began early, with Johnson starting to rap at the age of 12 after his older brother introduced him to hip-hop. While attending Mill Creek High School, he adopted the stage name “ATL” and was part of a rap group called Black Out Boiz. After releasing one project with the group, Johnson pursued a solo career, initially releasing his music, including his first project “My Turn,” on MySpace. He continued to record mixtapes in his basement, which led to a connection with his cousin and Travis Porter’s manager, Charlie Jabaley.

A significant turning point came in 2009 when an early version of his song, “All the Way Turnt Up,” was included on Travis Porter’s mixtape, “I’m a Differenter 2.” Although Johnson wrote and performed the track, he was credited as “ATL.” This experience led him to adopt the more marketable stage name Roscoe Dash. Later that year, he met local entrepreneur L.A. Da Boomman and signed with his production company, Making Moves Inc. (MMI). Subsequently, he entered into a joint venture with A&R representative Anthony Tate and Zone 4, an Interscope Records-distributed label founded by music producer Polow da Don.

In 2010, Dash re-recorded “All the Way Turnt Up” with Soulja Boy. The track became a radio hit, leading to his signing with Interscope Records and its commercial release in January 2010. His debut studio album, “Ready Set Go!,” was inadvertently leaked before its official release. The following year, Dash gained significant recognition for his guest appearance alongside Wale on Waka Flocka Flame’s single “No Hands,” which achieved diamond certification by the RIAA and peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also released his debut extended play (EP), “J.U.I.C.E.,” in December 2011, and was featured on Big Sean’s “Marvin & Chardonnay” with Kanye West, which reached number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
