Roy Casagranda

Recipient of the NISOD Teaching Excellence Award in 2017, Roy Casagranda is a distinguished Professor of Government at Austin Community College, where he has taught Introduction to Political Science, United States Government, and Texas State and Local Government since June 2006. He completed his doctoral studies, earning a PhD in Germanic Studies from The University of Texas at Austin between 2011 and 2017. His dissertation, ‘Colonization of the Normative Realm in the Age of Instrumentality,’ explored the engagement of apolitical actors in the political realm through case studies including Soccer Hooligans in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution and the Occupy Austin Movement. Prior to his current role, Casagranda served as an Associate Professor of Political Science at Tomball College from 2002 to 2004 and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston from 2002 to 2003.

His concurrent work as President of The Austin School continues to provide accessible public education and critical analysis of contemporary political issues. Through his long-standing academic career, extensive media presence, and dedication to fostering civic engagement, Casagranda remains a pivotal voice in both educational and public spheres, renowned for his profound understanding of government and Middle East affairs.
