Ryan Goins

Ryan Matthew Goins, nicknamed “Go Go,” was born on February 13, 1988, in Temple, TX. He began his baseball journey at Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Texas, playing shortstop. Goins then attended Dallas Baptist University, where he played college baseball for the Dallas Baptist Patriots from 2007 to 2009. During his college career, he hit 32 home runs and recorded 117 RBIs, setting a Patriots single-season record with 22 home runs in 2009. His dedication and performance led to him being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2009 MLB draft, as the 130th overall pick.

Goins made his Major League Baseball debut on August 23, 2013, with the Toronto Blue Jays. He quickly established himself by tying a Blue Jays franchise record, hitting safely in his first eight consecutive games. Throughout his MLB career, Goins was known for his defensive versatility, playing both second base and shortstop for teams including the Toronto Blue Jays (2013–2017), Kansas City Royals (2018), and Chicago White Sox (2019–2020). He achieved career highs in 2017 while with the Blue Jays, playing in 143 games and recording 99 hits, 21 doubles, 9 home runs, and 62 RBIs, leading MLB with 10 bases-loaded hits that season. He also notably pitched a scoreless inning for the Blue Jays in 2016.

After several stints in the minor leagues with various organizations, including the Philadelphia Phillies, Oakland Athletics, and Atlanta Braves, Goins announced his retirement from professional baseball on October 9, 2023. His transition into coaching began shortly after, as he joined the Los Angeles Angels as an infield coach on November 8, 2023. This role highlights his continued involvement in baseball, leveraging his extensive playing experience to mentor new generations of athletes. In June 2025, he was named the Angels’ interim bench coach for the remainder of the season, showcasing his growing leadership within the sport.
