Ryan Hamilton was born in 1976 in Ashton, Idaho, a small potato farming community. His education includes an associate degree in journalism and public relations from BYU-Idaho, followed by a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Brigham Young University. Hamilton began his stand-up comedy career in Salt Lake City, Utah, performing in local clubs. He also established his presence in the comedy scenes of Seattle and Boston, which he refers to as his “comedy homes.” Early career milestones include winning the Sierra Mist “America’s Next Great Comic” search in 2005, which led to a national tour. In 2011, he won The Great American Comedy Festival. His comedic style is characterized by observational, sarcastic, and self-deprecating humor, focusing on personal experiences such as his single life, skydiving, hot air ballooning, and his distinct smile.
Hamilton’s career progressed with numerous television appearances, including multiple spots on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Conan,” and “The Late Late Show.” He was a two-time semi-finalist on “Last Comic Standing.” In 2012, Rolling Stone recognized him as one of the “Five Comics to Watch.” A significant achievement in his career was the release of his one-hour special, “Ryan Hamilton: Happy Face,” on Netflix on August 29, 2017. In January 2022, Hamilton was involved in an accident at LAX airport in Los Angeles, where he was hit by a shuttle bus. This incident resulted in ten broken ribs, a compound fractured arm requiring surgery, and a punctured collapsed lung. He subsequently recovered at his family home in Idaho. Despite the injury, Hamilton has continued his comedy career, demonstrating resilience and a continued commitment to performing.
