Samantha May Kerr, born on September 10, 1993, in East Fremantle, Western Australia, began her football journey with Australian rules football before transitioning to association football at the age of 12 due to gender restrictions. Her exceptional athleticism and raw talent were quickly recognized, leading to her W-League and international debuts at just 15 years old. Kerr’s early career saw her play for Perth Glory from 2008 to 2012, where she was voted Players’ Player at the 2009 W-League Awards and awarded Goal of the Year. She later joined Sydney FC before moving to the United States to play for the Western New York Flash.
Kerr’s career progressed rapidly, marked by significant achievements in various leagues. With the Western New York Flash in 2013, she contributed to winning the NWSL Shield. Her return to Perth Glory in 2014 saw her continue to dominate, becoming the W-League’s inaugural marquee player in 2018 with a reported $400,000 contract. She consistently topped goal-scoring charts, including leading her team to the Grand Final in the 2016-17 and 2018-19 W-League seasons.
