Saquon Rasul Quevis Barkley was born on February 9, 1997, in The Bronx, New York. His family later relocated to the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania, seeking a safer environment. He attended Whitehall High School, where he excelled in football, rushing for 3,646 yards and 63 touchdowns during his sophomore to senior years. His high school performance earned him recognition as a four-star recruit, and he committed to Penn State for his collegiate football career, originally intending to go to Rutgers. At Penn State, Barkley set multiple school records.
During his time with the Penn State Nittany Lions from 2015 to 2017, Barkley achieved significant milestones. He became the first player in Big Ten history to record a return and passing touchdown in the same game in 2017. He also set Penn State records for most all-purpose career yards (5,538), most career rushing touchdowns (43), most career receiving yards by a running back (1,157), and most total yards in a single game (358). His collegiate achievements led him to forgo his senior year and enter the NFL Draft.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, Barkley was selected second overall by the New York Giants. His rookie season was marked by impressive performances, resulting in numerous awards, including NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. After several seasons with the Giants, where he faced injury challenges but also earned Pro Bowl selections, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. In his first season with the Eagles, he set multiple franchise records, became the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season, and contributed to the team’s Super Bowl LIX victory, securing his first Super Bowl championship.
