Dynamic defensive wizard Sarah Sponcil is a rising star on the beach volleyball scene. In her outstanding rookie year, Sponcil made her mark as one of the best defenders on the scene with her performances at the AVP and FIVB tours. Setting her sights on becoming a future Olympian began to come to full fruition when finding a phenomenal partner in Kelly Claes. The formidable duo has claimed two outstanding second-place finishes at the 2019 FIVB 4-Stars while in the Netherlands and Portugal. While competing at the World Championships in Hamburg, Sponcil and her teammate finished with a notable 9th place. Sponcil’s potential to bring home Olympic glory for Team USA grows exponentially with her natural ability on the court.
Finding a poignant mentor in Olympic veteran Laura Kendrick firmed up Sponcil’s passion for the sport. It prepared her for the globetrotting lifestyle she now flourishes in. Advancing in her approach to the professional volleyball stage, Sponcil found a healthy approach to travel, scouting and nutrition that she could utilise in her training.
Becoming an inspirational force to up and coming athletes came as natural as breathing for Sponcil. Not to be deterred by a world pandemic, Sponcil has created a set of at-home drills for aspiring volleyball players to do while in lockdown. Challenging herself as an athlete, translated perfectly for Sponcil to create game-like situations at home to gear her up for success on the court. Sponcil’s opponents certainly have a world champion in their midst.
