Sarfaraz Khan is an Indian international cricketer who represents the Indian national cricket team in Test cricket as an aggressive right-handed batter. He has transitioned from a youth prodigy to an impactful middle-order batter in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League. After breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s Harris Shield record in 2009 by scoring an exceptional 439 runs off 421 balls for Rizvi Springfield, including 56 fours and 12 sixes, Sarfaraz Khan quickly established himself as a formidable talent in Indian cricket. His professional development was significantly guided by his father and coach, Naushad Khan, who fostered his talent from an early stage, implementing specific training on a synthetic pitch near their home to help him adapt to bouncier wickets.
This dedication led him to join the Mumbai Under-19 team and subsequently the Indian Under-19 team, where his aggressive right-handed batting style became evident, delivering a match-winning 66-ball 101 against South Africa Under 19s in 2013. He represented India in two Under-19 World Cups; in the 2014 tournament, he scored 211 runs at an average of 70.33, with two fifties and a strike rate of 105.5. During the 2016 Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, where India finished as runners-up, Sarfaraz was the second-highest run-scorer, accumulating 355 runs from six innings with five scores over 50 at an average of 71. He holds the distinction for the most fifties in Under-19 World Cups, achieving seven across his two tournament appearances.
Furthermore, his strike rate of 94.2 during his debut was the highest among all batters with two fifty-plus scores on debut in men’s Tests where data was available, underscoring his dynamic and impactful playing style at the highest level of international cricket.
