Scott Alexander Scheffler was born on June 21, 1996, in Ridgewood, New Jersey. His early interest in golf began at age three, and after his family moved to Dallas, Texas, he honed his skills at Royal Oaks Country Club under instructor Randy Smith. Scheffler had a notable amateur career, winning the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2013 and being named the top-ranked junior golfer in the country in 2014. He made his PGA Tour debut as an amateur in May 2014, making the cut at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning numerous collegiate honors including the Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year in 2015. Scheffler also contributed to the U.S. team’s victory in the 2017 Walker Cup.
Scheffler turned professional in 2018. His career progression saw him earn his 2019 Web.com Tour card, where he quickly made an impact. He secured his first Web.com Tour victory at the Evans Scholars Invitational in May 2019 and followed it with another win at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. His strong performance led to him being named Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year, securing his PGA Tour card for the 2020 season. In his rookie PGA Tour season, he made a significant impression, including a 12-under 59 at The Northern Trust and finishing fifth at the Tour Championship, earning him the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award.
The years 2022 to 2025 marked a period of significant achievement for Scheffler. In 2022, he earned his first PGA Tour title at the WM Phoenix Open, quickly followed by wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, propelling him to world number one. He then secured his first major championship at the 2022 Masters Tournament. Scheffler continued his dominance in 2023, defending his WM Phoenix Open title and winning The Players Championship. The 2024 season saw him win the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship again, his second Masters, the RBC Heritage, the Memorial Tournament, and the Travelers Championship. He also won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games and his first FedEx Cup title. In 2025, he added the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, his third major at the PGA Championship, successfully defended his Memorial Tournament title, and secured his fourth major at The Open Championship before winning the BMW Championship and Procore Championship, solidifying his position as a leading figure in professional golf.
