Shailene Woodley is an American actress best known for her
role as Tris in the box office hit franchise Divergent and the blockbuster
success The Fault in Our Stars. Recently, Woodley has received critical acclaim
for her portrayal of Jane Chapman in the HBO series Big Little Lies.
Woodley rose to fame as a teenager after being cast in The
Secret Life of the American Teenager’s leading role. Her portrayal of Amy
Juergens received five Teen Choice Awards nominations. Later, Woodley gained critical
acclaim for her film debut in The Descendants, for which she was also nominated
for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture and
won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female. However, it was
her starring role in the romantic drama, The Fault in Our Stars that won her
global recognition. The film adaptation of John Green’s novel was a blockbuster
hit and resulted in Woodley receiving The Hollywood Film Award for Hollywood
Breakout Performance.
Her success led to a lead role in hugely popular sci-fi trilogy
The Divergent Series, and in 2016 Woodley starred in Oliver Stone’s
biographical thriller Snowden. She was then cast next to Nicole Kidman and
Reese Witherspoon in the 2017 hit series Big Little Lies. Woodley was later
nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Jane
Chapman. Most recently, Woodley has produced and starred in the film Adrift,
for which she won the Rising Star Award during the 2018 Deauville Film Festival.
In 2019, she was cast as a talented but troubled cop in the critically
acclaimed thriller Misanthrope.
