Shakti Mohan is an Indian dancer, choreographer, and television personality. Her career began with a significant milestone in 2009-2010 when she won Zee TV’s dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance 2’. Following this victory, she expanded her career into various facets of the entertainment industry. She produced dance-themed calendars in 2012 and 2013, leveraging her newfound recognition. In 2011, she was cast as the main lead character, Kria Ghai, in the fictional dance-based teen series ‘Dil Dosti Dance’, which ran until 2015. Further demonstrating her global reach, Mohan collaborated with composer Mohammed Fairouz on a BBC-sponsored dance project in New York City in 2012.
Her career continued to progress with a focus on her entrepreneurial endeavors and role as a mentor. In 2013, Mohan launched a YouTube channel, offering dance instruction videos to a wider audience. She also participated as a contestant in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ in 2014, where she achieved the position of 2nd runner-up. From 2015 onwards, she became a judge and mentor for the dance competition reality show ‘Dance Plus’ for seasons 1-4 and 6, and ‘Dance Plus Pro’. She also judged ‘Dance Singapore Dance’. Her first choreography for a Bollywood film was for the song “Nainowale Ne” in ‘Padmaavat’ in 2018. In 2020, she choreographed a song for Ranbir Kapoor in the film ‘Shamshera’, released in 2022.
Beyond her television and film work, Shakti Mohan established her own dance production brand, NrityaShakti, in 2011. Under this brand, she has produced web shows like ‘Break A Leg’ Season 1 and 2, and created dance-themed calendars, online tutorials, and organized world tours of dance workshops. In 2020, she was part of a L’Oréal Paris campaign. She further diversified her brand partnerships by co-launching a beauty brand called NY Bae x Shakti in collaboration with Purplle.com, bridging her artistic endeavors with entrepreneurial ventures.
