He began his acting career at an early age, participating in local theatrical productions by independent Chicago playwrights starting in 2010. His foundational experiences in regional theater paved the way for his entry into screen acting. Before securing prominent roles, Brown Jr. gained experience through commercials, music videos, and voice-over work, which contributed to his early development as a performer. He also had a guest-starring role in the NBC series ‘Chicago Fire’, further broadening his acting portfolio.

Brown Jr.’s career progressed notably with his casting in ‘The Chi’, a Showtime original series created by Lena Waithe. He first appeared as Stanley ‘Papa’ Jackson, a recurring character, and was subsequently promoted to a series regular for the second season in July 2018. He has portrayed this character for 74 episodes, from 2018 to 2025. This role provided him with sustained exposure and allowed him to develop his character across multiple seasons.
