British broadcaster and journalist Simon Hughes is a hard working behind the scenes figure who is well known to cricketing fans. He is affectionately called The Analyst and provides a unique service to TV, newspapers and radio as he explains the game in fine detail and gives historical context to matches. He first rose to prominence during the coverage of the sport on Channel Four between 1999 and 2005 and picked up various awards for his work, such as Baftas and Royal Television Society Accolades. Nowadays he is working with Channel 5 on their coverage of cricket and also works for BBC Test Match Special as well as contributing to The Times’ digital output. On top of this Simon has also written well respected columns in The Times and The Cricketer Magazine.
Simon started out with a successful career on the pitch, during which he took more than 750 wickets for Middlesex in all competitions. Aside from his broadcasting work on TV and radio, Simon has also written no fewer than nine books on the sport of cricket and these include some real award winners such as 1997’s A Lot of Hard Yakka as well as Who Wants to be a Batsman? Because of this there are few people with a broader knowledge of or understanding of the game of cricket and so Simon is an in demand and fascinating guest speaker who can host and front events at both club and corporate level and is someone who engages with all audiences and always inspires and educates them with his unrivalled view of the game.
