Joseph Michael Arpaio, otherwise known as Sherrif Joe Arpaio is an American former law enforcement officer and politician who frequently opposes illegal immigration pardons. He served as the 36th Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona from 1993 to 2017, only losing reelection to Democrat Paul Penzone in 2016. He is nicknamed America’s Toughest Sheriff.
Arpaio is recognised for his outspoken firm attitude and can be remembered for hitting the headlines after searching for former President Obama’s birth certificate. To document his time as Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arpaio had released two books called America’s Toughest Sheriff: How to Win the War Against Crime and Joe’s Law: America’s Toughest Sheriff Takes on Illegal Immigration, Drugs and Everything Else That Threatens America. In 2019, Arpaio issued a statement saying that he would run for Sheriff of Maricopa County in 2020, saying “Watch out world! We are back!” He subsequently lost at the Primaries to Jerry Sheridan. He has featured on news programmes such as Fox News and has been interviewed by Larry King about his life and views.
Arpaios spirit remains high and he continues to fight in the political world on the issues he believes in. He works closely with Donald Trump and other high powers in the Republican party and has previously spoken at Republican rallies where he has handed out signed copies of his notable books.
