Show Lo

Show Lo, born Lo Chih-hsiang on July 30, 1979, in Keelung, Taiwan, began his career in the entertainment industry at an early age. His parents, both performers, instilled a love for entertainment, with his father hosting and mother singing at various grassroots events. Lo first took the stage at age three, playing drums, and later received a silver award in a father-son singing contest at seven. He gained the nickname “Xiao Zhu” or “Little Pig” during his childhood due to being overweight, a factor that motivated him to pursue street dance in middle school and ultimately lose weight. He briefly attended Taipei Hwa Kang Arts School but had to withdraw due to family finances, then enrolled in Pei De high school’s media production course.

Lo embarked on his formal entertainment career in 1996, winning a singing and dancing competition by impersonating Aaron Kwok. This led to his debut in the boy group Four Heavenly Kings, which disbanded in 1998. He then formed the duo Romeo with Eddy Ou, releasing two albums before their disbandment in 2000. Following legal issues with his management, Lo adapted by transitioning into a variety show entertainer, gaining popularity as a host of comedy game shows and earning the “Triple Crown” title for hosting Taiwan’s three most popular variety shows concurrently. His acting career also began to flourish during this period, notably with his leading role in the idol drama “Hi Working Girl” (2003), where he developed a lasting friendship with co-star Jolin Tsai.

In 2003, Lo officially launched his solo music career with the album “Show Time” under Avex Taiwan, selling over 80,000 copies. He continued to release successful albums such as “Expert Show” (2004), “Hypnosis Show” (2005), “Speshow” (2006), and “Show Your Dance” (2007). A significant milestone occurred in 2005 when he became the first pop singer to headline a solo concert at the Taipei Arena. By 2010, he achieved another first, performing three concerts within 24 hours at the same venue. His commercial success extended to his fashion brand, STAGE, which he founded in 2006 and which sponsors many Taiwanese entertainers. His albums consistently topped charts, with “Rashomon” (2010), “Only for You” (2011), “9ood Show” (2012), and “Lion Roar” (2013) all selling over 150,000 copies and being Taiwan’s best-selling albums for four consecutive years. He entered the Japanese market in 2012 with his single “Dante,” charting on Oricon. As an actor, he earned three Golden Bell Award nominations for Best Male Actor and starred in Stephen Chow’s blockbusters “Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons” (2013) and “The Mermaid” (2016). Lo also co-hosted “100% Entertainment” for nearly two decades (2001-2020) and won a Golden Bell Award for Best Host in a Variety Show in 2017.
