Softball player Sierra Joy Romero played for the Michigan Wolverines for three years and is now an assistant coach.
Romero has always been a talented sportswoman, having played throughout her time at school and being ranked as number 3 prospect for the US by ESPN.com. She was awarded the Big Ten Player of the Year as well as Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2013, joining the college team at the University of Michigan as one of the most promising young players of the season. She lived up to those early expectations, earning the Big Ten Triple Crown during the 2014 season and going on to be named ESPNW’s National Player of the Year award in 2015. Her sporting prowess continued to shine in her final year at the University of Michigan, being named to the All American team and winning the Honda Sports Award for the best amateur softball player. Romero has also played for the Team USA Junior Women’s National softball team and is now widely regarded as one of the country’s brightest prospects in the sport.
Unfortunately, an injury in 2019 meant she has been out of the game for the season, but has branched out into coaching with an assistant coach position with the Oregon Ducks softball team. She looks set to make a comeback next season, and this rising star remains one to watch in the sport.
