Simone Consonni, born on September 12, 1994, in Ponte San Pietro, Lombardy, Italy, is an Italian professional racing cyclist. His cycling career began in amateur teams, notably with Team Colpack from 2013 to 2016. During his amateur years, Consonni demonstrated versatility and potential, securing a silver medal in the Under-23 road race at the UCI Road World Championships in 2015. He also achieved a national championship title in the Under-23 road race in Italy in 2016, along with a win at the Trofeo Città di San Vendemiano.
Consonni transitioned to professional road cycling in 2017, joining UAE Abu Dhabi, later known as UAE Team Emirates, where he rode until 2019. In these years, he participated in major Grand Tours such as the Vuelta a España in 2018 and the Giro d’Italia in 2019. From 2020 to 2023, he competed with Cofidis, further developing his road racing capabilities, which included a stage win at the Tour of Slovenia in 2018 and another at the Saudi Tour in 2023. His consistent performances in various races, including classics like Paris–Chauny and strong finishes in sprints, highlight his diverse cycling skills.
Simultaneously, Simone Consonni established himself as a dominant force in track cycling. He has accumulated numerous medals in team pursuit events at the Olympic Games, UCI World Championships, and UEC European Championships. A significant achievement came at the 2020 Summer Olympics (held in 2021) in Tokyo, where he won a gold medal in the team pursuit, setting a new world record. He continued to achieve success on the track, including a gold medal at the 2021 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in team pursuit and multiple European titles and medals. His career includes three Olympic medals, one gold, one silver, and one bronze, across the Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024 Games.
