Mark Rattelle, known professionally as “Smart” Mark Sterling, was born on March 1, 1983, in Boston, Massachusetts. His career in professional wrestling began in 2001, adopting the ring name Mark Malibu. Over the years, he evolved into the persona of “Smart” Mark Sterling, showcasing his abilities both as a wrestler and, more prominently, as a manager. His early career saw him honing his skills in various independent circuits, participating in promotions such as Beyond Wrestling, CZW, Limitless Wrestling, Create A Pro, and Blitzkrieg! Pro. This foundational experience allowed him to cultivate a distinct presence and develop the strategic acumen that would become his signature.
Sterling’s career progressed significantly with his involvement in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he made his debut on “Dynamite” in August 2020, portraying a lawyer for MJF. This role highlighted his ability to integrate character work with his wrestling background, leading to various managerial positions within the company. He notably managed Jade Cargill and her stable, The Baddies, regularly accompanying Cargill to the ring until May 2022. Following this, he aligned with Tony Nese in December 2021, and together they formed part of The Premier Athletes, a stable that also includes Ariya Daivari and Josh Woods.
