Sofia Kenin

Sofia Kenin is an American professional tennis player, recognized for her Grand Slam success and competitive spirit. After an impressive junior career that included winning the Orange Bowl in 2014 and the USTA Girls 18s National Championship in 2015, reaching the US Open Girls’ Singles final in 2015, and achieving a career-high of world No. 2 in the ITF junior rankings, Sofia Kenin turned professional in September 2017. She quickly made her mark, entering the top 100 of the WTA rankings in 2018 and reaching her first WTA semifinal at the Mallorca Open later that year.

Kenin’s breakout year in 2019 saw her win three WTA singles titles, starting with the Hobart International, and two WTA doubles titles, including the Auckland Open and the China Open. That same year, she upset world No. 10 Serena Williams at the French Open and defeated world No. 1 players Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka in back-to-back weeks, culminating in her being named the WTA Most Improved Player of the Year.

Kenin’s career reached a pinnacle in 2020 with her winning the Australian Open, marking her first Grand Slam singles title. She continued her formidable performance by winning the Lyon Open and reaching the French Open final, which propelled her to a career-high ranking of world No. 4 in singles and No. 21 in doubles.

Maintaining her upward trajectory, 2024 has seen Kenin secure two more doubles titles, first at the Abu Dhabi Open and then with Bethanie Mattek-Sands at the Miami Open. She also reached the singles final at the Pan Pacific Open, further cementing her return to the competitive elite and re-entering the top 100 in singles rankings. Looking ahead, Kenin is slated to compete in the Charleston Open singles final in 2025.
