About

Starlet Marie Jones was born on March 24, 1962, in Badin, North Carolina. She pursued her education in law, earning a B.A. from American University and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 1986. Admitted to the New York state bar in 1987, Jones began her professional career as a prosecutor with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, serving from 1986 to 1991, and was elevated to senior assistant district attorney in 1992.

Her legal background provided a foundation for a transition into television, where she became a legal commentator for Court TV in 1991 during the William Kennedy Smith rape trial. She further expanded her media presence as a legal correspondent for NBC’s “Today” and “NBC Nightly News.” In 1994, Jones broke ground by hosting her own court show, “Jones & Jury,” becoming the first Black person to serve as a court show judge. Following this, she became the chief legal analyst for “Inside Edition,” notably covering the O. J. Simpson murder case and being the only reporter to interview Simpson during his civil trial for “American Journal.”

Jones gained widespread recognition as one of the original co-hosts of the ABC morning talk show “The View,” where she appeared for nine seasons from 1997 to 2006. During her tenure, she also served as a red-carpet host for E! television network from 2004 to 2005. Post-“The View,” she returned to truTV in 2007 as executive editor of daytime programming and host of her eponymous talk show, “Star Jones.” In more recent years, Jones has taken on the role of judge on “Divorce Court,” beginning with its 40th season in 2022. Beyond her media roles, she is also a best-selling author, having published several books, including “You Have to Stand for Something, or You’ll Fall for Anything” (1998) and “Satan’s Sisters” (2011), the latter inspiring the television series “Daytime Divas.”
