Stefan Mitrović

Stefan Mitrović was born on March 29, 1988, in Belgrade, SFR Yugoslavia. He embarked on his water polo career as a center back, playing for Partizan from 2006 to 2013. During his initial tenure with Partizan, Mitrović achieved significant club success, including winning the LEN Champions League in the 2010–11 season and securing multiple Serbian Championship and Serbian Cup titles. His early career was marked by consistent performance, demonstrating his skill in key matches. In 2008, he faced a setback due to injuries from a motorcycle accident, which prevented his participation in the Beijing Olympics team. He later earned a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Mitrović’s career progressed with moves to various international clubs. From 2013 to 2016, he played for Szolnoki Dózsa-KÖZGÉP, where he contributed to winning two Hungarian Championship titles and a Hungarian Cup. He then joined Ferencvárosi TC in 2016, where he continued to collect significant accolades, including the LEN Champions League in 2018–19 and two LEN Euro Cups (2016–17, 2017–18). His time with Ferencvárosi also saw multiple Hungarian Championship and Hungarian Cup victories. In 2019, he moved to Greek powerhouse Olympiacos, securing the Greek Championship and Greek Cup in the 2019–20 season, along with the Greek Super Cup. His international club career has been characterized by consistent high-level play and a track record of winning multiple domestic and international club championships.

On the national stage, Mitrović has been a consistent member of the Serbia men’s national water polo team. He won gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships in 2009 and 2015, and European Championship gold medals in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. A highlight of his national career includes winning Olympic gold medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, complementing his earlier bronze medal from the 2012 London Games. He returned to Partizan in 2021, marking a full circle in his club career.
