Stella Maxwell was born on May 15, 1990, in Brussels, Belgium, to Northern Irish parents. Her father’s diplomatic career led to her living in various countries, including Australia and New Zealand, before graduating from high school. She attended the European School, Woluwe, and later the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she was scouted by a modeling agency. Maxwell began her modeling career after completing her university studies.
Maxwell gained international recognition for her work with Victoria’s Secret. She walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows in 2014 and 2015,
becoming an official Victoria’s Secret Angel in April 2015. Over her career, she has been featured in campaigns for brands such as Alexander McQueen, H&M, Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli, Urban Outfitters, and Topshop. Her editorial work includes covers for Vogue (German, Turkish, Spanish, Thai, and Japanese editions), Harper’s Bazaar (German and Singapore editions), Elle (Italian, French, and Russian editions), and Numero (Russian and Tokyo editions).
As a catwalk model, Maxwell has walked for designers including Jeremy Scott, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Moschino, Brandon Maxwell, Dolce & Gabbana, Jacquemus, Tory Burch, Giles, Dsquared2, Mugler, Fendi, Chanel, Miu Miu, 032c, and Versace. She held the top spot on Maxim’s “Hot 100 List” in 2016 and expanded her career to include an uncredited role in the 2018 film *JT LeRoy*. In 2020, she became an ambassador for Pride Live’s Stonewall Day events, and she appeared in Beck’s “Chemical” music video in 2021. Maxwell returned to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2025 after a seven-year hiatus.
