Susan Nedza, M.D., received the CMS Administrator’s Citation in 2008 for her instrumental role in developing and implementing key programs such as Hospital Acquired Infection, Hospital Value-based Purchasing, Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, and Physician Resource Use Reporting. Serving as Chief Medical Officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from 2003 to 2008, Dr. Nedza expertly facilitated communication between the agency and healthcare providers, including Critical Access Hospitals and Tribal Health Systems across several Midwestern states. Prior to her tenure at CMS, Dr.

Nedza honed her clinical expertise after completing her emergency medicine residency at Christ Hospital and Medical Center, where she then served on its faculty until 2001. Her strategic acumen was further bolstered by an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, obtained in 2001. Following her impactful work at CMS, Dr. Nedza continued to shape national health policy as the Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety at the American Medical Association, where she specialized in the development and adoption of new payment models across the healthcare system.

Nedza holds concurrent positions as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for Rural Healthcare Solutions and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. Through these roles, she continues to apply her comprehensive background to navigate complex health policy and payment models, ensuring high-quality, data-driven solutions for organizations operating across national and global landscapes.
