Taron Egerton

Taron David Egerton was born on November 10, 1989, in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. He spent his early childhood on the Wirral Peninsula before moving with his mother to Llanfairpwllgwyngyll on the Welsh island of Anglesey, and later to Aberystwyth at age twelve. Though born in England, he identifies as Welsh and is conversant in the Welsh language. He began acting at 15, describing it as a way to connect socially. Egerton later honed his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2012.

His career began with stage work, including a role in ‘The Last of the Haussmans’ at the National Theatre in London in 2012, and early television appearances in ITV’s ‘Lewis’ and Sky1’s ‘The Smoke’. A significant turning point came in 2013 when he was cast in Matthew Vaughn’s action comedy ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, which was released in 2015 to critical and commercial success, launching him into international recognition. He reprised his role as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin in the 2017 sequel, ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’. Concurrent with his rising fame, Egerton showcased his dramatic range in biographical films such as ‘Testament of Youth’ (2014), portraying Edward Brittain, and starring as the titular ski-jumper in ‘Eddie the Eagle’ (2016).

Egerton’s portrayal of Elton John in the 2019 musical biopic ‘Rocketman’ marked a career highlight, earning him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, as well as a British Academy Film Award nomination. This role further demonstrated his singing ability, as he performed the songs live during filming. Following this, he took on executive producer roles in projects like the 2022 miniseries ‘Black Bird’, where he also starred as Jimmy Keene, receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. His recent work includes starring as Henk Rogers in the 2023 biographical film ‘Tetris’ and Ethan Kopek in the 2024 Netflix thriller ‘Carry-On’, which became one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language films.
