Tessa Worley is a non-commissioned officer and a World Cup alpine ski racer from France. She is an expert in giant slalom and has participated in all five alpine events.
Worley’s mother Madeleine is French and her father Steve is Australian. She was born in Annemasse, in the département of Haute-Savoie. Her native ski region is the resort of Le Grand-Bornand. At the age of 16, Worley competed in her first World Cup event in February 2006, placing 29th in a giant slalom in Ofterschwang, Germany. In the opening contest of the 2009 season, a giant slalom at Sölden, Austria, in October 2008, she finished fifth. She won her first World Cup giant slalom race and placed third in Aspen, Colorado, one month later.
Before January of 2011, Worley won three straight giant slalom competitions. She took home two medals from the World Championships in Germany’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen in February: a gold in the team competition and a bronze in the giant slalom. Worley won the giant slalom event at the following competition in 2013 at Schladming to win the World Championship. In December 2013, Worley suffered an injury in a slalom in France two days after winning her eighth World Cup. She tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and had a lateral meniscus injury after getting caught on the tails of her skis in the opening run at Courchevel. Worley’s 2014 World Cup season was over, and it prevented her from competing at the Olympics. In 2017, she won gold in the giant slalom at the World Championships in St. Moritz.
