A member of the Norwegian Alpine Ski Team and a World Cup alpine ski racer from Norway, Atle Lie McGrath is a star on the rise. He earned his first World Cup podium in a giant slalom at Alta Badia, Italy, in December 2020, and his first World Cup victory in a slalom at Flachau, Austria, in March 2022.
Lie McGrath was born on April 21, 2000 in the state of Vermont in the United States. He moved to Oslo when he was just two years old. From 1984 until 1990, Felix McGrath, his father, competed for the U.S. Ski Team in the World Cup circuit. Selma Lie, his mother, competed in cross-country skiing competitions for the University of Vermont in Norway and on the NCAA circuit. He has a younger brother named Leo as well. Growing up, Lie McGrath was a multisport athlete who competed in cross-country skiing competitions until the age of 12 and football until the age of 15. He has represented the athletic organisation Baerums SK.
Lie McGrath competed in both the DH, SG, AC, GS, and SL events at the Junior World Championships in 2018 and 2019. In three races in 2018 he was the top U18 skier; in the combined in 2019 he won the silver medal. Just 0.01 seconds away from the top three, Lie McGrath finished fourth in the downhill as well.
