Thabiso Masemene attended the Thswane University of Technology, before carving out a rich career in the performing arts. His early study was focused on Performance Acting, and he has since used this to good effect, particularly in his extensive theatre credits.
In 2005, Masemene joined the Black Tie Ensemble where in the same year he understudied three roles by Donizetti, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Ernesto in Don Pasquale and Renuccio in Gianni Schischi by Puccini. And in 2007, Masemene went back to study at Tshwane University of Technology and graduated with Cum Laude in his National Diploma certificate, then completed his Bachelor’s Degree in 2009.
After that, Masemene embarked on a highly successful theatrical career. His credits include Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera, Evita (International Tour), Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Renuccio in Gianna Schicchi, Arturo in Lucia Di Lammermoor, Beppe in Ipagliacci, Don Basilio in Le Nozza di Figaro, Tata in Out of Time (South African State Theatre), Obajah in Elijah, Ntsikana (UNISA), Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte, Ramiro in La Cenerentola (Breytenbach Theatre), Mozart Requiem (Wits), and Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore (Joburg Theatre), and Messiah (Playhouse Theatre).
Masemene has also put his outstanding signing voice to good use, singing in the international festival Schelswig Holstein Music. He sang Brindisi with the world famous Renee Fleming in the South African State Theatre, and also performed the role of Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, produced by Opera Africa.
