They met at a music festival, married, and subsequently formed The War and Treaty, building a career that focuses on themes of hope and connection through their music. A feature-length film based on their lives is currently in development.
The group’s music blends rootsy R&B with country gospel. Their new album, “Plus One,” released in February 2025, includes songs that incorporate mainstream country elements while retaining their signature message. The War and Treaty received two Grammy nominations in 2024, including Best New Artist and Best American Roots Song. They became the first Black duo nominated for the Country Music Association Award for Duo of the Year in 2023 and the Academy of Country Music Award for Duo of the Year. In 2025, they received an Emmy for their work with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.
