Thundamentals

Thundamentals are an Australian hip hop group that originated from the Blue Mountains region near Sydney. The current members include Brendan Tuckerman (Tuka), Jesse Ferris (Jeswon), and Morgan Jones (Morgs). Prior to becoming Thundamentals, the group performed under the name Connect 4. They officially formed as Thundamentals in 2008 and released their first album, “Sleeping On Your Style,” in 2009. From their early days, Thundamentals have focused on developing their sound and live performances, leading to a recognized discography within the Australian hip hop genre.

Over their career, Thundamentals have released five studio albums, establishing a significant body of work. Their albums consistently charted within the top 100 in Australia, with “So We Can Remember” reaching number 3 in 2014 and “Everyone We Know” reaching number 2 in 2017. Their music has also been recognized through various singles achieving certifications, such as “Smiles Don’t Lie” (Gold), “Something I Said” (Gold), “Think About It” (Platinum), “Sally” (3x Platinum), “I Miss You” (2x Platinum), and “Everybody but You” (Platinum). The group has also been nominated for several awards, including the AIR Awards for Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Album in 2014 and J Awards for Australian Video of the Year and Australian Album of the Year.

Beyond their studio releases, Thundamentals have engaged in various projects and collaborations. They performed at Festival First Night in Sydney in 2010 and their Like a Version recording of Matt Corby’s “Brother” was voted into the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2012. The group further expanded their musical endeavors with live albums, “Iso Tapes (Vol 1)” and “Iso Tapes (Vol 2),” in collaboration with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2020. Thundamentals continue to perform and release music, maintaining their position in the Australian hip hop landscape.
