British actor and writer Tim Downie holds such a wealth of experience in everything from television and film to theatre and writing having worked on some of the greatest productions in the last 20 years and with some of the most fantastic talent the industry has to offer. Hailing from Hertfordshire, Tim attended the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and made his television debut in 1994 on long-running police procedural, The Bill. In 1996 he appeared alongside James Corden on children’s sitcom, Out of Tune, and in 1998 starred as Sam Smallwood on British soap Hollyoaks.
2002 saw Tim land a major role on BBC’s Doctors as Alex North, a role he held for 112 episodes. That same year he also appeared in his first professional film role in the mystery thriller, Dead Man’s Dream. In 2008 Tim’s first theatre piece, The Dead Moon, was commissioned and toured the UK. He worked on Academy-award winning movie The King’s Speech in 2010 alongside acting legend Colin Firth, as Duke Gloucester. In 2011 the talented actor appeared in comedy This Is Jinsy which was nominated for Best Sketch Show at the British Comedy Awards.
2012 was a big year, seeing Tim star in the blockbuster musical, Les Misérables, and ending off with Tim taking on the role of Danny Bear in the hilarious dry British comedy, Toast of London, a character he played for three years. The following year he joined funny woman Miranda Hart on her sitcom Miranda. nTim became a regular on the sitcom Upstart Crow in 2016 as Christopher Marlowe, and two years later played recurring, real-life historical character Governor William Tryan in popular history sci-fi series, Outlander. The versatile actor stepped into production in 2020 when he worked as both executive producer and star of the six-part comedy series, The Jewish Enquirer.
