Todd Bowles secured his first Super Bowl ring as a player, winning Super Bowl XXII with the Washington Redskins in 1987. His eight-year NFL playing career included stints as an undrafted free agent with the Redskins (1986-1990, 1992-1993) and a season with the San Francisco 49ers (1991). Following his playing career, Bowles transitioned to coaching, beginning as a defensive coordinator at Morehouse College in 1997, followed by Grambling State from 1998-1999. He then moved to the NFL as a defensive backs coach for the New York Jets in 2000, the Cleveland Browns from 2001-2004, and the Dallas Cowboys from 2005-2007.
In 2019, Bowles joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as defensive coordinator, where he was instrumental in shaping one of the league’s top defenses, culminating in a Super Bowl LV victory in 2021. His exceptional performance and leadership qualities led to his promotion to Head Coach of the Buccaneers in March 2022. Under his guidance, the Buccaneers have demonstrated consistent high performance, achieving three consecutive playoff appearances and securing three consecutive NFC South division titles from 2022-2024, establishing a formidable presence within the league. Most recently, Bowles earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount St.
Mary’s University in 2023, showcasing a commitment to continued personal and professional development. In 2024, he was appointed to the NFL’s Competition Committee, a testament to his respected voice and strategic insight within the sport. Further underscoring his value to the franchise, Bowles signed a multi-year contract extension with the Buccaneers in 2025, ensuring his continued leadership and vision for the team’s future success.
