Anthony Keith Gwynn Jr. known to his fans as Tony Gwynn Jr. is a retired professional baseball outfielder. Gwynn finished high school in California, and later got into San Diego State University. In college, Gwynn played baseball at his father’s alma mater. In 2003, Gwynn was a Mountain West Conference All-Star with his junior year, when he hit .356 stole 25 bases. He was then drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of 2003 MLB draft. Gwynn made his way to the major league debut in 2006, when he was a pinch hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gwynn’s outstanding breakthrough was with his major league hit against San Francisco Giants, which took place on July 19 2006, exactly 24 years after his father’s major league hit. In late 2007, Gwynn pinch-hit for Bill Hall, against his father’s former team. Gwynn was able to tie the game with a triple. Gwynn and Gabe Kepler were on the wait to have a leg up on Gabe Gross, for an outfield position. In May 2008, Gwynn was optioned to the Nashville Sounds, however after Roosters had expanded, Gwynn recalled on September 2008. With the Brewers, Gwynn had scored .248 in 130 games. Gwynn was traded to San Diego Padres in 2009, for the outfielder Jody Gerut. Gwynn pinch-hit in the 9th inning, in his first game with the Padres. With San Diego Padres, Gwynn accumulated 165 hits, 20 doubles, 9 triples, 5 home runs, and 41 RBI, with a .242 batting average. Currently Gwynn works as a broadcaster for the Padres radio and television network.
