Tyson Chandler is a former NBA athlete who transitioned from a professional basketball player to a player development coach, now sharing his extensive experience and skills. After being selected as the second overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft directly out of high school, Tyson Chandler embarked on a distinguished professional basketball career spanning nearly two decades. His exceptional talent was evident early on, earning him selections to the Parade Magazine and USA Today All-America Teams, as well as the McDonald’s High School All-America Team in 2001. During his high school career, Chandler was also recognized as California Mr.

His illustrious playing career concluded in 2020, marked by a legacy of leadership, championship success, and defensive excellence that cemented his place among the league’s top centers. Transitioning from player to coach, Chandler joined the Dallas Mavericks in 2021 as a player development coach. In this role, he applies his deep understanding of the game and his championship experience to mentor the team’s centers, including emerging talents such as Dereck Lively II. This coaching appointment is part of the ‘Mavs Legends’ program, an initiative by owner Mark Cuban designed to integrate former team champions back into the organization, leveraging their invaluable insights and expertise to foster the next generation of NBA talent.
